Aylmer, city in the Outaouais Urban Community, southwestern Québec, Canada, situated on the Ottawa River. Aylmer is part of the national capital region, an area that also includes Hull and Ottawa. Products manufactured in the area include electronic equipment, construction materials, and processed food. Points of interest include the Corporation du Musée d'Aylmer, a museum containing exhibits on the city's history, and the Centre d'exposition l'Imagier et Park de l'Imaginaire, an art gallery and sculpture park. Aylmer is also home to the Connaught Race Track and buildings dating from the first half of the 19th century. The Kingsway Park and Country Club, home to the Canadian Golf Museum, is also located in Aylmer.
The community was founded in 1816. It adopted its present name in 1847 to honor Matthew Whitworth-Aylmer, 5th Baron Aylmer, who served as governor-general of British North America (now Canada) from 1831 to 1835. Aylmer incorporated in 1975 when it merged with Lucerne and Deschênes.
