Sarnia, city in southern Ontario, Canada. Sarnia is located on the Saint Clair River and the southern end of Lake Huron, near Port Huron, Michigan (to which it is connected by bridge and railway tunnel). It is a busy port and one of Canada's principal centers for refining petroleum. Other manufactures include rubber, chemicals, motor-vehicle parts, and building materials. Agriculture is also an important part of the economy. The city's economy diversified at the end of the 20th century, developing businesses related to tourism, health care, and software.
Points of interest include Centennial Park, Bluewater Fun Park, Gallery Lambton, Hiawatha Harness Racing Horse Track and Slots Casino, and Canatara Park. The Saint Clair Parkway is a recreational drive along the river. Sarnia is the site of Center by the Bay, an environmental center featuring the Discovery House Museum, the Bayer Environmental Science Center, and the Dow Great Lakes working model. Center by the Bay organizes events such as the annual SnowFest. Additional annual events include the Highland Games, held in August, and the winter Celebration of Lights.
