Brandon, city in southwestern Manitoba, Canada, on the Assiniboine River. Brandon is Manitoba's second largest city after Winnipeg. It is a manufacturing, commercial, and transportation center situated in a major agricultural region. Products include chemicals, farm machinery and parts, pharmaceuticals, fabricated metals, electronics, homes, fertilizers, and garden seeds. A research station for the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada adjoins the city.
Brandon University and a community college are in the city. The city is also home to Manitoba Emergency Services College, which provides training in all areas of emergency services. Brandon's points of interest include the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba; the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, located at Brandon Airport; the B. J. Hales Museum of Natural History; and the Daly House Museum, located in an 1882 building that was the home of the first mayor of Brandon. The city is also the site of Keystone Center, a sports and convention facility with almost 4 hectares (10 acres) under one roof. Annual events include Manitoba Ag Days, held in January; the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair; and the summer Brandon Folk Music and Arts Festival.
