Langley, city and district municipality in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Located southeast of Vancouver, in the Fraser Valley, the district is bounded by the Fraser River to the north and the United States to the south. The city covers roughly 10 sq km (4 sq mi) within the larger district. The city and the district each have their own government. Although the district is mostly rural, it has experienced rapid suburban growth from Vancouver in recent years.
Agriculture, including dairy farming, fruit growing, and vegetable growing, is vital to the area's economy. Other important industries are aircraft maintenance, food processing, lumber processing, and the manufacture of paints, precision machinery, and mining equipment. Retail, tourism, and other service industries are also significant. The Langley area is served by Langley Municipal Airport, Vancouver International Airport, and nearby Abbotsford Airport. Educational institutions include Trinity Western University, Northwest Baptist Theological College, and a branch of Kwantlen University College. Other attractions include Aldergrove Lake Regional Park and the Greater Vancouver Zoological Center. The area is also home to national historic park Fort Langley, a reconstruction of a Hudson's Bay Company trading post.
