Kelowna, city in south central British Columbia, Canada, on Okanagan Lake. Kelowna is a commercial, manufacturing, and tourist center situated in a major fruit-growing and lumbering region. Principal manufactures include wood products, processed food, transportation equipment, communication equipment, and wine. Located in the central Okanagan Valley, the city boasts many orchards and vineyards, as well as one of British Columbia's largest wineries (opened in 1932). Kelowna is served by the Kelowna International Airport.
Kelowna is home to the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and two campuses of Okanagan University College. Attractions include the Geert Maas Sculpture Gardens and Gallery, the British Columbia Orchard Industry Museum, the Kelowna Centennial Museum, the Wine Museum, the Okanagan Valley Wine Train tour, and the Fintry Queen paddle wheeler cruises on Okanagan Lake. Kelowna's parks include City Park, which is the site of a children's water park and the annual summer Kelowna Family Regatta, and Kasugai Gardens, a Japanese garden. Annual events include the spring and fall Okanagan Wine Festivals and the summer Folkfest.
