Denizli, city in southwestern Turkey, the capital of Denizli province, located about 110 km (about 70 mi) from the Aegean Sea. Denizli is primarily an agricultural market city with some light industry, particularly cotton fabric production. Tourists use Denizli as a transit point for visiting the nearby spa of Pamukkale and the ruins of the town of Heirapolis, an ancient cure center founded in 190 BC and abandoned after an earthquake in AD 1334.
