Batman, also known as Iluh, city in southeastern Turkey, the capital of Batman province. The city is located in the Mesopotamian lowlands of southeastern Anatolia between Diyarbakir, Mardin, and Siirt. Batman lies just north of the Tigris River, in a region inhabited largely by Kurds. The area is Turkey's major oil-producing region and oil refining is Batman's chief economic activity. The city is also a commercial center for the region's agricultural products, particularly cotton. Batman is connected by rail and highway to Diyarbakir and Elâzig. Population (1990) 147,347.
