Kashan, city in central Iran, located in Tehran Province. It is noted for its fine carpets. Woolen and silk goods, brass and copper work, and jewelry are also produced in Kashan. The city dates from ancient times and was formerly important as a site along the caravan route from Kerman to Esfahan (Isfahan).
