Ballymena, town, in the county of Antrim, north-eastern Northern Ireland. Ballymena is situated on the River Main, to the north of Belfast. It is a textile town as well as the market outlet and administrative centre of the predominantly agricultural Ballymena local government district. Ballymena is renowned for its linen and woollen cloth. The town has developed into a recreational centre, with easy access to the walking and excellent fishing in the Antrim Mountains to its east.
