Lowestoft, town and administrative centre of Waveney District, Suffolk, eastern England, on the North Sea. Lowestoft is the most easterly port in Great Britain. It is an important fishing centre and a holiday resort. The port handles timber, grain, and chemicals. The old town is picturesque, with a number of quaint passages, called "scores", leading off the High Street. The parish church of St Margaret is 15th century, with an older tower. Lowestoft was granted the right to hold a weekly market in 1308. From 1757 to 1802 the celebrated white and blue Lowestoft china was produced here.
