Caerleon, village, Newport Borough, Gwent, southeastern Wales, on the Usk River, near Newport. Caerleon is the site of the important Roman legionary fortress of Isca, founded here about AD75 and occupied until the 4th century. Extensive remains are present, including those of an amphitheater, baths, and barracks. A museum containing archaeological relics is also here.
