Kirkcaldy, burgh, administrative center of Kirkcaldy District, Fife Region, central Scotland, on the northern shore of the Firth of Forth. Kirkcaldy is an important commercial center and a seaport; grain is its principal import. Manufactures include textiles, furniture, and linoleum. Kirkcaldy was made a royal burgh in 1644. The town flourished after the establishment of the first linoleum plant in 1847; this industry, once dominant, has declined.
