Kilmarnock, burgh, administrative center of Kilmarnock and Loudoun District, Strathclyde Region, central Scotland, near Glasgow. Kilmarnock is an industrial town with manufactures that include carpets, whiskey, footwear, and machinery. The work of the Scottish poet Robert Burns was first published here in 1786, and the town has a museum honoring the poet. Before 1975 Kilmarnock was the county town of the former county of Ayrshire.
