Borås, city in southern Sweden, on the Viskan River, near Göteborg, in Västra Götaland County. Borås is Sweden's chief textile-manufacturing center; clothing, dyes, and hosiery also are produced. Landmarks include a 17th-century church, the city hall (1910), and Borås University College (1977). Borås was founded in 1622 by Gustav II Adolph.
