Lérida (ancient Ilerda), city, northeastern Spain, capital of Lérida Province, on the Segre River. Lérida is the commercial center of the province; the chief industries include food packing, wine making, and the manufacture of arms, chemicals, textiles, and olive oil. Lérida first became important as a military outpost of ancient Rome.
