Prokop'yevsk, city, southern Siberian Russia. Located on a branch of the Trans-Siberian Railroad, Prokop'yevsk is a leading mining center of the Kuznetsk Basin. Manufactures include mining equipment and food products. The city was created in 1931 by a fusion of smaller mining settlements. Population (1995) 348,934.
