Komsomol'sk-na-Amure, city, far eastern Russia, in Khabarovsk, on the Amur, near China. It is an industrial center served by the Baikal-Amur Railroad, a branch of the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Manufactured goods include ships, steel, forest products, and refined petroleum. Founded in 1932, the city was built largely by members of Komsomol, the Communist youth organization. It expanded greatly after World War II (1939-1945). Population (1995) 355,634.
