Ruda Slaska, city in southern Poland, in Katowice Province, near Zabrze. The city is a coal-mining and -processing center in the extensive Silesian coalfields. The community dates back to the Middle Ages, but was not incorporated until after World War II (1939-1945). It is the site of an 18th-century coal mine, the oldest in Poland.
