Apeldoorn, city in the central Netherlands, in Gelderland Province, near Arnhem. The natural beauty of the region attracts many tourists; a national recreation area, Het Veluwe, adjoins Apeldoorn. On the outskirts of the city is Het Loo, formerly the royal summer palace and now a national museum containing a large art collection.
