Vólos, city, eastern Greece, capital of Magnisía Department, a port on the Gulf of Vólos. Vólos is a trade center for such regional products as textiles and tobacco. Vólos developed after passing from Turkey to Greece in 1881. Nearby are the sites of the ancient cities of Pagasae and Demetrias. Population (1991) 77,192.
