Saint-Cloud, town in north central France, in Hauts-de-Seine Department, on the Seine River, near Paris. It is a resort and an industrial center; products include aerospace and electronic equipment and metal goods. In a picturesque park here are the remains of the Palace of Saint-Cloud (1572, destroyed by fire in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War), the residence of several French rulers. The town was noted for its porcelain in the late 17th and the 18th centuries. In 1804Napoleon proclaimed the French Empire at St.-Cloud.
