Mazatenango, city in southwestern Guatemala, capital of Suchitepéquez Department, on the Sis River, in the foothills of the central highlands overlooking the Pacific coast lowlands. It is one of the nation's principal commercial and manufacturing centers. Products include textiles, processed food, and footwear. The Pacific Coast Highway passes through the city. Population (1995 estimate) 43,316.
