San Vicente, capital of the department of the same name in El Salvador, 72 km (45 mi) east of the city of San Salvador. Founded in 1635 on the site of an ancient Aztec settlement, San Vicente is near the volcano of San Vicente in an important coffee-growing region. Other crops are corn, tobacco, and sugarcane.
