Yosu, city and port in southern South Korea, in South Cholla Province, on a bay of the Korea Strait. Located at the tip of a peninsula, Yosu is a rail-spur terminus and the site of the country's major oil refinery. Fish, rice, silk, and seaweed are exported. In addition to oil refining, industries include boatbuilding, silk processing, food processing, and the manufacture of rubber products. Also known as Yeosu, the city was called Reisui during the Japanese occupation of Korea (1910-1945).
