Suwon, city, northwestern South Korea, in Kyonggi Province, near Seoul. It is a road and rail center in an area where rice, soybeans, wheat, and vegetables are grown. An old walled city, Suwon is the site of research facilities of the Seoul National University College of Agriculture. The Japanese name was Suigen. Population (1995) 755,502.
