Naga, city in the central Philippines, in the southeastern portion of the island of Luzon. Located on the Bicol River, Naga is the capital of Camarines Sur province. The city, which has an important railroad stop and a major road junction, is the market center for an agricultural area in which rice, corn, and abaca fiber are produced. Cement is manufactured in the city. The University of Nueva Caceres (1948) is here. The area was visited by the Spanish in 1573; a settlement called Nueva Caceres was made on the site of the former native village of Naga. Population (1999 estimate) 76,834.
