Wakayama, city and port in Japan, on southern Honshu Island, and capital of Wakayama Prefecture. Located on the Kii Channel, Wakayama is a commercial center for the surrounding agricultural and lumbering region. Wakayama also has plants producing chemicals, machinery, and textiles.
