Hirakata, city on central Honshu Island, Japan, in Osaka Prefecture, on the Yodo River. It is chiefly a residential center and also has manufacturing industries producing fabricated metal, machinery, and textiles. Hirakata was an important river port in the Edo period (1603-1867) and was reached by rail in 1910.
