Amagasaki, city in Japan, on southern Honshu Island, in Hyogo Prefecture, a seaport on the Yodo River and Osaka Bay, between the cities of Osaka and Kobe. Amagasaki is an industrial center with plants producing iron and steel products, chemicals, textiles, glass, pottery, drugs, dyes, and woodwork. Other industrial installations include breweries, machine shops, and shipyards. The principal exports include drugs, dyes, metal products, and pottery. An important part of the Osaka-Kobe industrial complex, the city was raided by United States bombers late in World War II (1939-1945).
