Asahikawa, city in Japan, on central Hokkaido Island, in Hokkaido Prefecture, in the scenic upper Ishikari River valley. The city is a rail junction in a rice-growing and lumbering area, and machinery, textiles, chemicals, ceramic goods, wood pulp, and sake are manufactured here. Daisetsuzan National Park is nearby.
