Shimizu, city, Japan, southern Honshu Island, in Shizuoka Prefecture, a port on Suruga Bay, at the mouth of the Tomoe River, near the city of Shizuoka. Protected by the Miho Peninsula, and on the Tokaido railroad, the port is in a rice-growing area; exports include tea, mandarin oranges, canned and frozen fish, and plywood. Beach resorts are in the suburbs, and the Ryugeji Temple is to the south.
