Numazu, city and port, Japan, in Shizuoka Prefecture, southern Honshu Island, at the mouth of the Kano River, on Suruga Bay, near the city of Shizuoka. It is an important road hub and a rail junction on the Tokaido Line; connections are made here for the Izu Peninsula resort towns and for Mount Fuji. The city is a market center in an area of sericulture and agricultural production. Silk, fish, and vegetables are traded here. Manufactures include machinery and textiles. Numazu is an old settlement; a castle existed here from 1479 to 1868. Seaside resorts, including the emperor's villa, lie east and south of the city. Numazu Park is a scenic spot on the bay.
