Bharatpur, also Bhurtpore, city in northern India, in Rajasthan State. The city is a trade center, noted for such handicrafts as chowries (fly whisks), earthenware, and fans. Bharatpur was the capital of a princely state merged with several neighboring princely states to form Rajasthan Union, now Rajasthan State.
