Malegaon, city, western India, in Maharashtra State, on the Girna River. The Girna irrigation canal waters the area to the north. The city is a road junction and local trade center for millet, wheat, gur (unrefined palm sugar), and oilseeds. Industries include cotton ginning and milling, oilseed milling, and the manufacture of textiles (chiefly saris), handicrafts, palm sugar, and candy. Population (1991) 342,595.
