Bhiwandi, city in western India, Maharashtra state, located in the Konkan coastal lowlands. Bhiwandi is a rapidly growing industrial city, with manufacturing employing a large portion of the workforce. Bhiwandi's industrial growth is a spillover from the growth in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay), 48 km (30 mi) to the south. Traditionally Bhiwandi has been noted for its cotton textile mills.
