Jabalpur, formerly Jubbulpore, city, central India, in Madhya Pradesh State, near the Narmada River. In the surrounding agricultural area, wheat, rice, millet, and mangoes are grown. Jabalpur is a major trading and industrial center. The chief manufactures are textiles, telephone parts, furniture, building materials, ammunitions, and glassware. Jabalpur University (1957) is here.
