Rajkot, city, western India, Gujarat State, near the center of the Kathiawar Peninsula. It is a major railroad junction, a commercial and manufacturing center, and the administrative headquarters of Rajkot District. Principal products include textiles, machine tools, and plastic and electrical goods. Saurashtra University (1967) is here. The city was the capital of the former princely state of Rajkot until 1948.
