Bhatpara, city in northeastern India, in Bangla State, on the eastern bank of the Hugli (Hooghly) River, in the Kolkata metropolitan area. The principal industries are jute processing, cotton milling, and paper production. Bhatpara is an ancient seat of Sanskrit learning. Population (1991) 304,952.
