Gejiu, also Ko-chiu or Kokiu, city, southwestern China, in Yunnan Province. Located in a rugged region near the border with Vietnam, the city has been a major mining center for silver and tin since about the 13th century, and it is now the country's most important producer of tin ore; lead and iron ore also are mined.
