Weifang, city in eastern China, in Shandong Province, a trade and commercial center at the western end of the Shandong Peninsula. Manufactures include processed food, textiles, and agricultural machinery. Coal is mined nearby, at Fangxi, and the Shengli oil field is to the northwest. The city was founded in the 3rd century BC. It was called Weizhou in ancient times and Weixian from 1911 to 1949. Population (1991) 415,556.
