Tieling, city in northeastern China, in northeastern Liaoning province, on the banks of the Liao River. Tieling is an industrial center for coal production in the northeast. In addition to coal, the city produces marble, machinery, textiles, and paper. Tieling is connected by rail to Beijing and Harbin. Chinese records from the Zhou dynasty (1027?-256 BC) identify Tieling as an indigenous settlement. The town became known as Tieling by the early Ming dynasty (AD 1368-1644).
