Jinzhou, also Chin-chou or Chinchow, city, northeastern China, in Liaoning Province. It is a rail hub and industrial center on the narrow coastal plain between Beijing and industrialized northeastern China. Major manufactures include chemicals, machinery, electrical equipment, textiles, and processed food. Founded in the 2nd century BC, the city was important as a military and agricultural center until it developed into a textile and rail hub in the early 20th century. It was known officially as Chinhsien from 1913 to 1947 and was (1932-45) part of the Japanese-controlled state of Manchukuo. It became a center of heavy industry in the 1950s.
