Meihekou, city in northeastern China, in southern Jilin Province. The city is located on the Huafa River, northwest of the Longgang Mountains, about 200 km (about 120 mi) northeast of Shenyang, and about 160 km (about 100 mi) south of the city of Jilin. Meihekou's industries include the production of machinery, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, building materials, paper, apparel, food products, and coal. Agricultural products of the area include soybeans, millet, corn, and tobacco. The city is connected by rail to Jilin and Shenyang. Originally known as Hailongxian, its name was changed to Meihekou in 1985.
