Shiyan, city in central China, located in northwestern Hubei Province on the northern slopes of the Wudang Mountains. Shiyan is one of the largest automobile production centers in China. The city's industries also produce rubber, machine parts, textiles, and building materials. Shiyan has highway connections with Xi'an and Wuhan, as well as a domestic airport. Shiyan was a small village before China's Communist government was established in 1949. The development of the city for the automobile industry began in the 1960s.
