Shashi, also Sha-shih, city, eastern China, in Hubei Province, a port on the Yangtze River. Variant spellings of the name include Shaxi and Shasi. Textiles, processed food, and chemicals are major manufactures. Subordinate to nearby Jingzhou for many years, Shashi first gained prominence as a river port in the 19th century.
