Suihua, city in northeastern China, in central Heilongjiang Province, about 100 km (about 60 mi) northeast of Harbin. Suihua's industries produce edible oils, cigarettes, apparel, wine and spirits, carpets, machinery, and building materials. Agricultural products grown in the area include soybeans, maize (corn), millet, and wheat. The chief cash crops are beets, tobacco, and flax. Two major rail lines pass through the city, connecting it with Harbin and smaller cities in Heilongjiang. Suihua became a center of county administration in 1913 and was designated a city in 1982.
