Wuzhou, city in southern China, at the eastern edge of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Wuzhou is located at the confluence of the Xun and Gui rivers, which become the Xi Jiang, the largest river in southern China. Wuzhou has one of the largest inland ports in China. The city's primary long-distance transport connections are by water. Wuzhou has a number of light industries that produce textiles, chemicals, food products, and pharmaceuticals. Agricultural products of the region include sugarcane, tea, tobacco, and rapeseed. Wuzhou is the site of China's earliest memorial, erected in 1930, to revolutionary leader Sun Yat-sen. Originally called Wu, the city was renamed Wuzhou during the Tang (T'ang) dynasty (618-907).
