Yangjiang, city in southeastern China, located in southwestern Guangdong Province, west of Jiangmen. The city is well situated at the mouth of the Moyang River on the South China Sea about 200 km (about 125 mi) southwest of Hong Kong. The city produces steel, leather products, and a number of traditional crafts products such as small knives and lacquerware. These traditional crafts products are exported to Japan and Europe. Agricultural products of the area include soybeans, peanuts, and tobacco. The city's port facilities connect it with other coastal communities. Yangjiang was first brought under the administration of the Chinese Empire during the Qin dynasty (221-206 BC). During the Han dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), it was established as a county.
