Tongling, city in eastern China, in southern Anhui Province on the east bank of the Yangtze River. The region surrounding Tongling is one of China's main sources of copper. Besides copper mining and processing, the city's industries include the production of chemicals, machinery, coal, electric power, and cement. Huang Shan, one of China's renowned scenic mountain ranges, lies to the south of Tongling. The area's natural beauty has attracted numerous well-known Chinese writers over the centuries. Archaeologists have unearthed copper vessels at Tongling dating from the Spring and Autumn period (722-481 BC) of the Eastern Zhou dynasty.
