Tangail, city in central Bangladesh, in west central Dhaka division, located on the east bank of the Jamuna River 75 km (45 mi) northwest of Dhaka, the Bangladeshi capital. Tangail is famous for handloomed products, particularly saris, the traditional garments of Bangladeshi women. The town is also a market for the region's crops of rice, jute, and oilseeds. Roads connect Tangail with Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Jamalpur. The city is home to several colleges affiliated with the University of Dhaka.
